Kharkiv Dzogchen Community begins with the Teacher – Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, from His arrival in Leningrad back in 1992. But the unity of the minds of the Teacher and the disciples became possible thanks to the thirst for knowledge of our vajra brothers and sisters, who, due to their karmic merits, met the Teaching through books and brought the meeting closer with their deeds.
In the late 1980s, the then still in the USSR, the works of Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche fell and, finding a response in the hearts of people, they began to sprout in “practice”. By 1990, in several cities of the “Union” there were communities of people who turned to Chögyal Namkhai Norbu for advice: “What to call the already existing places where the Dzogchen Teachings were spread in the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Russia?” At a retreat in Conway in July of the same year, where Russian students are present, Rinpoche decides to visit our country. And in September 1990, the answer comes with the names of five lings. The fifth name – “Karma Ling” – is given to the youngest community in the city of Kharkov.
In the summer of 1991, with the blessing of Rinpoche and the invitation of the Dzogchen centers, Fabio Andrico comes to Kharkov, conducts retreats on yantra yoga, meets people. Joyful 1992 – the first visit of the Teacher to the Russian-speaking space …
Since then, the Dzogchen Community has grown and developed. Ganapujas are held on calendar (and not only) days, collective practices are done. Practitioners study Santi Maha Sangha together, and in 1996 the first Kharkovites who passed the basic level exam appear.
Further more: in 1997, with a retreat on the Vajra Dance, Andriana Dal Borgo visits us, teaches the dances OM-A-HUM and the Six Spaces of Samantabhadra. This retreat is translated from English by Lyudmila Kislichenko, who later became a Level 2 Vajra Dance instructor herself and repeatedly visited Kharkiv with retreats.
In 2006, representatives of almost all DOs of the Russian-speaking Sangha will come to Kharkiv – we are hosting a conference led by Yeshi Silvano Namkai, where issues of further development of the Dzogchen Community and the need for cooperation are discussed.
Currently, the Kharkov Dzogchen Community has 50 members and rents premises in the central part of Kharkov (photo # 2). Collective practices, classes in Yantra Yoga, Vajra Dance, Foundation and the first level of Santi Maha Sangha are regularly held. Various retreats with instructors on the Basis and Level 1 of SMS, Yantra Yoga, Vajra Dance are held.
During the arrival of the SMS instructor Sasha Gomonov, we arranged public lectures for students of Kharkov universities. And in 2012, in the vicinity of Kharkov, within the framework of the Tavale festival – the largest event in Ukraine on practical psychology and spiritual practices – the Vajra Dance was presented under the leadership of Ruslan Kim and Maria Stepanik.
We partner with ASIA and support the education of one Tibetan girl.
We are trying to make Karmaling a worthy place of Teaching in the World Dzogchen Community and contribute to the spread of that invaluable Knowledge transmitted by our Precious Teacher Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.
